What to Look for When Buying a Dog Bed
Dog beds come in different sizes, styles and functions to meet the needs of different dogs. Just like people, dogs sleep in unique positions: curled up on one side, stretched out or even flat out on their tummies or backs. Choose a bed sized larger than your dog to accommodate all these positions.
Depending on the time of year, dogs may prefer a fluffy cozy poof of a bed to snuggle, or a simple flat mattress or raised bed with more air circulation. Older dogs do better with firm cushions that soothe aching joints and are easy to climb in and out. Dogs also get dirty and shed, and old dogs may have potty accidents when they sleep, so choose a dog bed you can clean. Many designs allow the outer fabric to zipper off for washing.
For chew-aholic dogs, especially puppies, look for fabrics and designs that either resist gnawing or aren’t attractive to your chewing dog. Puppies that enjoy chewing often target zippers.
