Andal, who is thought to be an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, is honoured on Aadi Pooram, also known as Aandal Jayanti. Andal’s birth is commemorated during a celebration held in the Tamil month of Aadi. On the Pooram or Poorva Phalguni Nakshatra of the Aadi/Shravana Month, Aadi pooram or Andal Jayanthi is observed.
Aadi Pooram is also devoted to Goddess Shakti, and it is said that on this day, the Goddess descends to bless the people. Pooram or Puram is one of Hindu Astrology’s 27 Nakshatras. This event is very important in South India, especially in Srirangam.
