Bahula Chaturthi 2023: Date, Time, Katha, and Importance

Story Behind Bahula Chaturthi

There is a specific reason for celebrating Bahula Chaturthi and observing a Bahula Chaturthi Vrat. In Gujarat, the Bahula Chaturthi Vrat Katha is very important.

There was a cow named Bahula who was returning home to nurse her calf. She encountered a lion on her way home. Bahula was terrified, but she summoned the bravery to tell the lion that she needed to feed her calf. Bahula begged the lion to let her go, promising that once she fed the calf, she would return and he could have her. The lion let her go and waited for her to return.

The Lion was shocked when Bahula returned after feeding her calf. He was astounded and inspired by the cow’s devotion to her young, so he let her free and let her leave.

Even the lion’s physical might, fury, and passion had to stoop in front of the cow’s care and love for her calf. Since that time, worshippers have celebrated Bahula Chaturthi by sacrificing cow’s milk and saving it for the calves solely. It is a sort of worship that people undertake in order to obtain the deity’s blessings.
