How Bayley Got Her Name In WWE
The name "Bayley" actually comes from her hometown in the Bay Area of California. The Role Model appeared on the Talk is Jericho podcast in 2016 and explained the tedious process of how she got her name. She said, “I was throwing out names like Bobby or Jordan, something like that because I was like ‘I don’t want it to be super girly, like I don’t want to be Patricia or something.’ I don’t know if that’s girly, but I was thinking of it, (like) Jennifer. Bailey was one of them and that was like the last one I wanted. I did not want that name."
Bayley added “They gave me three choices and I forget what the other one was but one of them was Davia, which is not Davina, and I was like ‘are you guys missing the ‘n’ or…?’ They’re like, ‘No, Davia.’ I said, ‘That’s not even a name.' I was like, ‘Man, I guess I’ll just go with Bayley.' It was with a ‘i’ and I was like ‘OK, I’ll choose this… because I was ready to send in another list of names because I was just not happy. I finally said, ‘OK, if I choose this one I have to spell it B-A-Y because I’m from the Bay Area’ and I thought I was so cool. Yeah, it has to mean something to me. So then I went with that, and now I love it.”
She struck the ball right out of the park with that name as for her initial WWE career she played a babyface. Bayley's character in WWE was known for her positivity, her love of hugging her fans, and her never-give-up attitude. Her name fitted perfectly with her character, as it was a cheerful and friendly name that is easy to remember. It became an integral part of her brand and helped her become one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE.
Bayley's Dark Turn In WWE
While Bayley's babyface character got her recognized among the fans, especially in NXT, it started losing steam while she worked on the main roster, so much so that fans started booing her when she came out. So, in October 2019, Bayley did the unthinkable and came out with a completely different look. She had cut her hair short and ripped apart her Bayley buddies.
This dark turn led her to great success as she was the dominant champion throughout the pandemic era. And now she's in a long feud with Becky Lynch, all the while leading a faction of new faces to the bright lights.
