After starting in Staten Island and Brooklyn, the New York City Marathon course winds its way through Manhattan twice: up First Avenue on the way to the Bronx, and then down Fifth Avenue toward the finish line in Central Park. However, the trek can be like visiting two different planets: While Fifth Avenue is home to some of the city's grandest prewar co-op buildings, a new crop of taller, contemporary, amenity-rich condos have sprung up along First Avenue. By comparing and contrasting apartments on the same street, we see the difference a few avenues can make.
