She narrated the story of how one of her mentors, Dr. Jeanne Lofstedt, saw her husband carrying their baby into the college so she could feed her multiple times a day in a corner. Fortunately, Dr. Lofstedt was kind enough to create a fully equipped private nursing room for her. We admire how Dr. Oakley did not allow this situation to deter her from her goal.</p></div></div><div id='' class='whywelove-item'><div id='' class='whywelove-letter-cont'><div class='whywelove-letter'>B</div></div><div id='why-we-love-main-cont'><h3 id='' class='whywelove-title'>She balances work and family admirably</h3><p id='' class='whywelove-text'>When asked how she cultivates a good work-life balance with such a demanding career, Dr. Oakley explained that while approaches to building a good work-life balance are individualized and dependent on the individual, one thing she suggests is not taking on too much. She also noted that although early-career veterinarians should not expect a lot of time off in their first few years, they should be fair to themselves and remember what really matters: the people they care about and the other animals in their lives.</p></div></div><div id='' class='whywelove-item'><div id='' class='whywelove-letter-cont'><div class='whywelove-letter'>C</div></div><div id='why-we-love-main-cont'><h3 id='' class='whywelove-title'>She loves animals</h3><p id='' class='whywelove-text'>By preserving the lives of the animals we love, Dr. Oakley benefits others and contributes to society. According to her, she grew up on a creek and spent a lot of time on her uncle’s dairy farm with horses and cattle. Neighbors knew that she loved animals, so if there was an orphaned rabbit or an injured raccoon, they would bring it to her. This inspired her choice of career path.</p></div></div>
