Reginald Undergoes Name Change, Admits To Faking French Accent

WWE 24/7 Champion Reginald has confessed to faking an accent and embellishing his resume in order to get his for in the door at WWE ... tactics which clearly paid off!

Following his successful 24/7 Championship defence against Chad Gable on the most recent edition of SmackDown, Reginald -- who now goes by Reggie -- gave a backstage interview in which he revealed that he pretended to be a French sommelier in order to get a job with WWE.

"Look, I'm not from France, I'm from St. Louis, Missouri," Reggie admitted. "I've been a fan of WWE my entire life. I saw a posting that Carmella needed a sommelier. I thought, "I can do that." But she wanted me to speak French and also speak in a French accent. I'm like, "if I need to do this, I certainly can." But that was never the goal. My goal was to get a foot into the door, and now I'm the 24/7 Champion."

As you might recall, Reggie debuted in WWE as Carmella's personal sommelier when the former SmackDown Women's Champion was repackaged as "The Most Beautiful Woman In WWE."

Reggie (real name, Sindey Bateman) is a former Cirque du Soleil performer who signed a developmental contract with WWE in January 2020. He made his in-ring WWE debut in a losing effort to then-SmackDown Women's Champion Sasha Banks, who was feuding with Reggie's client Carmella at the time.

When his relationship with Carmella came to an end, Reggie began associating with Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. He won the WWE 24/7 Championship from Akira Tozowa on the July 19 edition of Raw shortly after being fired by Jax and Baszler.

Despite debuting as a glorified dogsbody and spending the majority of his first few months in WWE as the butt of the joke, Reggie has won the WWE Universe over with his impressive aerial skills and positive attitude.
