In "Inside Out," Demi Moore goes in-depth into a highly traumatic incident. Moore claims that her mother, Virginia King, took her to bars and other sketchy places to get men to notice her daughter. This continuously happened until one night, a 15-year-old Moore came home to find an older man, who'd let himself in with a key. He allegedly raped Moore, and afterward asked her, "How does it feel to be whored out for $500?" Moore claims her mother gave this man access to rape her teenage daughter (via TooFab).
Moore's mother was an alcoholic who attempted suicide a few times, and she died in 1998 from cancer (via People). In Moore's memoir, she wrote about the time she saved her mother from a suicide attempt. "I remember using my fingers, the small fingers of a child, to dig the pills my mother had tried to swallow, out of her mouth" (via Heavy).
In an interview with Diane Sawyer (via ABC News), Moore answered one of the biggest questions people had about the revelation. Did her mother sell her? Moore answered, "I think ... in my deep heart, no. I don't think it was a straightforward transaction but she still did give him the access and put me in harm's way." Apparently, the two reconciled before her mother's death (via Heavy).
