Adrienne Bailon and Israel Houghton first met in 2013 at an event at the Christian Cultural Center in New York, they told Yahoo Lifestyle. Later that year, they worked together on I'm in Love With a Church Girl, which Bailon starred in and he produced, per IMDb. The two stayed friends following the film.
Houghton and his first wife, Meleasa, split in 2015. Their divorce wasn't yet finalized when he and Bailon began being spotted together in 2016, which led many to believe he was cheating on Meleasa with her, as Bailon explained during an episode of The Real."Yes, I am dating. His name is Israel Houghton, as some of you guys may know," she said. "This man pictured here is not married. Praise God!"
Houghton also refuted the rumors in a statement on his Facebook. "I met Adrienne Bailon a bit over two years ago. We worked together and became friends. Our circles connected and we remained good friends. From a friendship, as two single adults, we have very recently begun to explore a dating relationship."
