Professional Background
I began my medical training the first 2 years in medical school at KU School of Medicine - Kansas City and then completed the last 2 years of medical school at KU School of Medicine - Wichita, graduating with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2003. Following medical school training, I began my residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita and served as PGY3 Chief Resident my final year of training until graduating from residency in 2006. Following residency training, I joined the faculty with KUSM-W Internal Medicine Department as an Assistant Professor and Hospitalist.
Prior to starting fellowship training in Gastroenterology in 2008, I completed a Master of Public Health degree through the University of Kansas School of Medicine and also dedicated additional time working in hospice care prior to obtaining board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. I completed fellowship training in Gastroenterology at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville, FL in 2011 and returned to the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita where I am currently Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine and Neurology, Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology, Director of Hepatology, and Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
